Rūma Teina
Infants & toddlers: 6 weeks - 2 years
Rūma: room
Teina: ‘younger sibling’
Our infant care room caters for up to 10 tamariki per day with 3 kaiako/teachers. The day is based around the routines and rhythms of each individual child.
We use the primary caregiving system where each pēpē/infant is allocated to a specific kaiako when they start. The philosophy is that each pēpē forms a positive relationship and attachment with their primary caregiver who acts as their safe base while they transition into their new environment. As your pēpē becomes more confident and gains a sense of belonging they start to form relationships and attachments with other kaiako in the room.
When ready, tamariki transition as a group to Rūma Tuakana, the preschool room, supported by a familiar teacher to help them settle into their new environment.
