What we offer

Authentic, Passionate & Inclusive

We have been providing high-quality education and care for the tamariki of our community for more than 45 years.

Rutherford Preschool is a small community-based, non-profit, early childhood centre situated inside the grounds of Rutherford College in Te Atatū Peninsula. Our centre comprises an infant care room for up to 10 infants and toddlers, and a preschool room for up to 30 children. Tamariki are supported by 100% qualified and experienced teachers and quality teacher to children ratios.

Our approach is grounded in the principles of the New Zealand early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki, achieved through a child-initiated play programme based on the unique needs and interests of each child. We promote healthy living and sustainability to instil a life-long appreciation for personal wellbeing and our natural world. As such, our large, natural outdoor environment is designed to get tamariki moving and connecting with nature to allow their imagination to run free.

We pride ourselves on being a welcoming whānau-based environment, providing formal and informal opportunities for parents and caregivers to be involved in their child’s education. We celebrate diversity by respecting and celebrating our unique cultures through language, stories, music, song, dance, art and food, and by weaving bi-cultural practice throughout our curriculum.

He aha te mea, nui o te ao?
He tāngata, He tāngata, He tāngata

What is the most important thing in the world?
It is people!

Perhaps our biggest strength is our people. Our kaiako/teachers are passionate and dedicated, demonstrated by longevity of service and low-staff turnover. At the heart of what we offer your child are caring, reciprocal relationships between tamariki and kaiako, supported by our relationship with you, and our wider community.
